The National Mark of Malaysian Brand

SME Corporation Malaysia in collaboration with SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd. developed the National Mark of Malaysian Brand, a certification scheme that depicts, the quality, excellence and distinction of products and services of Malaysian companies. Through this effort, the Government hopes to change the perception that local products are of lower quality, reliability and low packaging standards than big brand names. With the National Mark of Malaysian Brand certification, Malaysian SMEs would be able to build credibility and reputation for quality at par. The Malaysian Brand was first launched in 2009 by the then Crown Prince of Perak Darul Ridzuan, HRH Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah. Under this programme, participating Malaysian companies will be evaluated through stringent standards, whereby auditing and monitoring measures will be put in place to ensure adherence to the set quality standards. If successful, the products or services will be given the right to carry the National Mark of Malaysian Brand for the period of two years. In order to retain the Mark, auditing and monitoring measures will be done periodically to ensure adherence to the criteria set. Various trade promotion activities will be undertaken to promote brands that have been awarded with the National Mark of Malaysian Brand. To acquire the Malaysian Brand, some fees will be imposed for processing of the application and to cover the auditing costs. The qualifying criteria for the National Mark of Malaysian Brand is as follows:

1. Business incorporated /registered under the following: - Companies Act 1965(Act 125); - Registration of Business Act 1965(Act 197); or - Certificate(s) of Practice from Professional Bodies.
2.   Operating from legal premises
3. A minimum 3-STAR rating under SME Corp. Malaysia’s SCORE assessment
4. For companies in any sector with Certified ISO 9001 or equivalent; For companies in the Food Sector with HACCP or ISO 22000; For companies in the Automotive Supply Chain with ISO/TS16949; or For companies in the Medical Device Sector with ISO 13485.
5. Own a Registered Brand

• Green Lane for Business Accelerator Programme (BAP) incentive under SME Corp. Malaysia for eligible SMEs
• Privileged Media Coverage;
• Facilitate companies' access to on-going local and international trade promotion and A&P activities by Ministries & Agencies; and
• Invitation to specific training / programmes organised by SME Corp. Malaysia and its partners.
